Adventure Specialist Position

Help create fun, engaging group activities where clients make friends and learn social skills.


Starting Rate: $20.00 - 21.00 / hr

What we do:

 Good-2-Go Oregon is Central Oregon's premiere community-based support program for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).  We specialize in high functioning adults who experience some form of Developmental Disability.   


The Applied Community Experience (ACE) department helps our clients learn social skills and community norms through the creation and hosting of fun, community-based group activities.  These activities currently host only 6 clients due to COVID restrictions, but have historically seen turnouts as high as 30+ clients.  This allows clients to meet other people in the I/DD community, make friends, learn to socialize in a group setting, and most importantly, have fun!  

What you will do:

Adventure Specialists help Trip Leaders ensure that activities are smooth and safe.  They assist with keeping track of clients, ensuring that clients are prepared for any activity, helping transport clients from the community hub to the event, helping the client purchase tickets, and assisting the Trip Leader in the event of an emergency.  Adventure Specialists will always have at least 1 other trained staff member with them at all times.   

Adventure Specialists need the ability to react to unexpected circumstances, solve unexpected problems, and create a fun environment for clients.  They also must be able to explain (not necessary do) and engage in a variety of activities including from bowling to hiking.


Common activities include:

  • Bowling (by far the most common activity)
  • Hiking, Walking Club
  • River excursions (boating, kayaking, fishing etc.)
  • Arts and Crafts, Cook Offs
  • Winter excursions (show shoeing, sledding etc.)


A typical day varies based on the activity but generally includes:

  • Explaining the activity
  • Ensuring clients are safe and following social norms
  • Transporting the clients to and from activities  
  • Encouraging clients and making sure they are enjoying themselves

What we are looking for:

We are looking for a fun, empathetic, and patient individual to help with events.  Candidates must show strong problem solving skills, be able to de-escalate situations, and possess a spirit of fun and adventure. 

Qualified applicants must:

  • Have excellent verbal communication skills,
  • Be comfortable working with many clients at once,
  • Possess the ability for creative problem solving, and
  • Be fun.


Job Requirements:

  • Be able to pass a criminal background check
  • Be able to obtain a First-Aid/CPR certification within 90-days of employment, and.
  • Have reliable personal vehicles which can transport multiple clients (with travel/mileage reimbursement).

Other Information:

Schedule:

  • Typically, events take place in the afternoons and early evenings, Tuesday - Friday between 3:00 and 8:00 PM.
  • ACE adventure specialists should expect work at least 5 events per month


Compensation:

  • Starting Rate: $20.00 - 21.00 /hr
  • All participation costs are covered
  • Mileage is reimbursed at $0.50 per mile when transporting clients or going outside of your normal city
